Do I need sacramentals or remedies?
a) Here is a subject that is hard for many
people to understand. In the Old Testament, Moses told the
people to put the blood of a lamb upon their door posts.
By doing that, the angel of death would pass them by. Those
who obeyed were spared. Many others perished for their lack
of faith.
Christ is the Lamb of God and it is His
image Heaven has said to put upon your doors as an act of
faith.
Just as Moses instructed the people to make
images of snakes and put them on a pole so that those who
would look upon it, as an act of faith, would be healed
of their "snake bites."
God uses many natural things to represent
supernatural things. And as God is God, and we are not,
everyone is compelled to accept that we do not always understand
the Divine Wisdom of God - because of sin in our lives and
in the world. Many things are kept hidden from mankind,
only that He may reveal, or give, these things at another
time, as is pleasing to God's Will.
b) From the earliest of time, the Church
has used sacramentals as a sign of faith. Sometimes these
images were used as sign used in secret so that they could
communicate without persecution.
In time, the Church recognized that it was
pleasing to God for certain symbols to be propagated among
the people. This became known through the many, many miracles
that occurred as a result of faith of the people with the
use of a particular sacramental.
Christ is the Divine Physician. As such,
He is a good and kind Physician Who knows how to give crutches
for souls to lean upon as they grow stronger in faith and
virtue. There are also the times when God wants mankind
to use certain images that will encourage people to have
stronger faith and to understand the Faith more clearly.
The Crucifix, the Saint Benedict Medal combined
with the Crucifix, and the brown scapular are some of the
most important of the sacramentals.
c) Because of the importance of these times,
Heaven has given still another symbol, sacramental, of our
faith to aid us in understanding God's great Love for us.
I am referring to the Medallion of Our Lady,
Co-Redemptrix. This is another example of how Heaven responds
to defending us during this time of increased evil in the
world.
No one should ever forget their rosary,
one of the greatest consolations that we have. While so
many of us delay or even refuse to confess their sins, we
should do penance, and with the help of God's grace, never
commit them again. The reason I place this statement now
in the middle of talking about sacramentals is: we are so
concerned with feeding our bodies, to bathe regularly, and
try to provide not only for what we need corporally at this
time, but, to prepare for a future. Although so many (if
not most people) give no concern for their spiritual needs.
so few labor to keep the souls, hearts, and minds clean,
free from sins.
d) The ignorance displayed by some people
when it comes to sacramentals is astounding to say the least.
Compounding prejudices, egos, and just plain hardheadedness
inherited from those before them prevents a great multitude
from participating in a great wealth of graces.
The many times history has proven the validity
behind sacraments are still being denied with spite and
even hatred.
